This story broke me. If the mental illness, grief, loneliness, panic, fear and sadness were not enough, the main character going though all of this is 14. I read 160 pages and the story time line had moved less than a week. As I got towards the end I got passive perks of being a wallflower vibes which I also loved.
Brilliant. Brutal but brilliant!

unpredictable and heartbreaking, loved every page of this book and couldn’t finish it without crying. Every aspect of the book tied together perfectly from start to finish. 13 year old Michael faces many challenges in his daily life including grieving his fathers death, fitting in at school and looking after his siblings. On top of that he deals with a rare psychological disease where he believes his mother has been replaced. Such an emotional and moving book, overall a really enjoyable read.

A heart-wrenching and warming story about growing up, not fitting in and coping with grief and loss. Michael is a character you can't help but love. I had never heard of the psychological condition referenced in the book before so found that really interesting. A really enjoyable read.

3.5 Rounded Up.

The Other Mother by Matthew Green is a tender and heartbreaking novel about 13 year old Michael who wakes one morning to discover that his mother has disappeared and "the other mother" has taken her place. The only problem,  Michael is the only one that has noticed this. This begins the saddest and craziest couple of days of his life.

Michael has not had an easy life, and this novel explores complex issues such as grief and loss, mental illness and the challenges of dealing with these issues at the young age of 13, so you just can't help but love him.

Overall good writing and pace however I did feel that the ending was a bit rushed. This was an easy but emotional book to read, and if you want all the feels, this book is for you. ⭐⭐⭐
