Excellent book for kids. It teaches them that all humans are the same but our culture values make us different.
I will write a more detailed review later.

An amazing book! This shows us that no matter where you are in the world, there are people that are the same as you. They like the same things as you, or they have the same hobbies as you. Even though they are far apart, they can still talk to each other by talking about the things they like. This book shows us a beautiful friendship of people in completely different parts of the world. Will definetly add this to my collection.

I liked the idea more than the actual book. The art fine. The text was a bit boring. It just really didn't have a story to it. And neither book really felt like a developed character. So we could see what each of the boy's were seeing but not really who they were. 3.5 of 5.

Told mostly through the pictures. The phrasing of the main refrain is rather odd, to me. Young children will enjoy pointing out the comparisons and identifying in their own ways.

A wonderful book about pen-pals writing, and being curious about the differences in their immediate and larger cultural lives from Kailash's South East India life to Elliott's New York life. "Same, same, but different" is repeated several times, illuminating how important and unique differences are while sharing large things in common with each other. I used this for my toddler and children's storytime, it's a wonderful read. :-)

A book about two different cultures that nicely sum up how they a similar but different was cute and wholesome.

Looking for books to use for a preschool story time on diversity, I found this gorgeously illustrated story. The charming story line teaches a beautiful message of hope and love. While we may look, live, speak, and act differently, humans are also the same in all the ways that count (we live and love and hurt and laugh).
