Quality advice. I do think there are some things the author did not take into consideration though. For example, the author mentions doing work based on your circadian rhythm, but does not take into account that women and men have different rhythms. Men tend to be on a daily rhythm, while women tend to be on a 28 day rhythm.

It may have taken a few tries but I finished the full book. I found the first few chapters really insightful and the rest was good to read as a young/new manager

There were some useful tidbits in here, or at least useful reminders. The first half of the book was much more valuable than the second. The first half focuses more on management. The second half is more about office life and office politics. A lot of the content is common sense.

This is a bit dated and some of the advice is to perfectionistic (ie be funny but don’t be too funny. Smile but don’t smile too much), but overall I learned a lot from this book. Some the advice around dealing with difficult situations was really solid.

“If appreciation is important to you in your relationship with your manager, realize that it is equally important to the people you manage.”

The knowledge presented here is incredibly basic, to the point that some of it is just basic logic. That being said, I appreciate the author not shying away from tough topics.
