I loved this book because Monty is a hilarious narrator! I enjoyed his take on things and often found myself laughing out loud! I also adored Percy and Felicity as characters and can't wait to read the next book and novella that take place after this one. The story kept me on the edge of my seat with the constant turns and absurd situations on their adventure! I loved how Lee mixed humor, adventure, with difficult issues like mental health, trauma, race, and sexuality. These moments never felt forced to me but genuine to the characters.

The hype is real!
To be honest I don’t know what I thought this story was going to be but it wasn’t this. Not going to lie I thought it was just like a gay Pride and Prejudice. But boy was I wrong and boy was I glad about it!
I absolute adore the ensemble of characters. Percy is a beautiful character and he deserves the world! Felicity gave me total Hermione Granger/Arya Stark vibes, a badass female not going to be limited by what society deems a woman should be. Lastly Monty, our main character, I definitely had my problems with his character in the beginning but his snark is always on point so you can’t totally hate him. Also you find out the way he is and it all makes sense. Plus can we just take a moment to appreciate the moment between Scipio and Monty- you know the one. <3

This book? I love it. So much. Not much of a first person POV fan but about three paragraphs in I was sold on Monty's voice.
What I really love about this book is that it realistically portrays queer, disabled, and poc people in a time period that history likes to claim that they don't exist. The snipbits in the back of the book that delve into the matters more were just as good as the book and make for an interesting read.
10/10 would recommend, would reread.

I really enjoyed the author’s style of writing and word choice. Interesting character’s, unique plot. And way funnier than I expected. The wit and repartee of Monty was my favorite part.

FIRST REVIEW:
Because it isn't said enough:

Monty is bisexual
Percy is birracial and has epilepsy
Felicity is in the aroace spectrum (that's what the second book is about)

It wasn't bad, I just found it boring and the romance developed so slowly, although it was really obvious that they both already liked each other. Wish the author had gone in more detail about the hardships of being gay in the time period this is set in. I guess I was disappointed because I expected the story to be more romance centred than it was and the romance was slow. Also Henry is not a very likeable character, i don't understand why Percy even thought of him as a potential partner (he gets better, but still)
