This book had absolutely no right to be so cute. Also I wanted to strangle Monty for about half the book, that boy makes terrible choices.

A fun adventure following Monty, the rakeish bisexual son of a lord, his younger sister Felicity, who wishes to become a physician, and Percy, Monty's Black best friend who he is desperately in love with. The trio set out on a Grand Tour of Europe but it doesn't take Monty to make an enemy of one of the most powerful men in France who chases them across the continent. There are touches of magic in this novel which I didn't expect at first.

Well loved the themes of this book. But for some reason I thought there would be more of a focus on the romance in the book but so much adventure happened! Love that just didn’t expect it haha I guess I miss read it. Monty was a lot but really showed growth through out and has skills it’s just charming people and appearing dumb! Loved Percy and excited to read Felicity’s book. The setting and the light fantasy elements were nice. Want to know what happens next between Monty and Percy! That cannon blow was just plan mean! Anyway found this via the vibes search you can do with similar books you’ve liked. Definitely will do that again! And did this as such a fun buddy read, can’t wait to do another!

I liked the premise of the book. I especially enjoyed how much research the author put in to telling the story. At times the story dragged and felt like it was repeating itself. Overall an enjoyable and mostly lighthearted read

I was really enjoying it when it was about Monty, Percy and Felicity going on a Grand Tour with a few hitches but once the plot about alchemists and panaceas was introduced I started to enjoy it a little bit less. The real problems Monty and Percy had were more compelling to me (and it's not like they were ignored, I just wish the focus was more on that than the adventure, personally).

It was still pretty fun though and the life and death situations were important to the development of the characters and the romance.

I think there were aspects of this book done really well, but there were also parts I struggled with. I liked the adventure and the character interactions! I really struggled to like the main character... he honestly had few redeeming qualities. And I get that his behaviour and aspects of the facade were due to how he was treated at home and trauma, but it didn't negate the fact that he's pretty shitty to anyone around him. I also think this book could have been edited down - some parts dragged quite a bit. But overall, I'm glad I read it!
