Well loved the themes of this book. But for some reason I thought there would be more of a focus on the romance in the book but so much adventure happened! Love that just didn’t expect it haha I guess I miss read it. Monty was a lot but really showed growth through out and has skills it’s just charming people and appearing dumb! Loved Percy and excited to read Felicity’s book. The setting and the light fantasy elements were nice. Want to know what happens next between Monty and Percy! That cannon blow was just plan mean! Anyway found this via the vibes search you can do with similar books you’ve liked. Definitely will do that again! And did this as such a fun buddy read, can’t wait to do another!

It was a re-read for me. I had first read it 3-4 years ago. I decided to re-read it for the nostalgia since I loved it so much when I was younger. What I didn't expect was to enjoy it just as much, if not more. The characters are great, well-written and fun, Monty has a serious character development and seeing him evolve was so cool. The plot of the story is captivating, and it's quite an adventure. Our trio makes such a nice team and seeing them together, with their differences and relationships is amazing.
Overall super cool book, I would recommend it to anyone interested in a fun adventurous story occurring in XVIIIth century Europe, with some stakes (but not too high). It's an overall lighthearted read which can be read fast but will still touch your heart because of the characters and their personalities.

I liked the premise of the book. I especially enjoyed how much research the author put in to telling the story. At times the story dragged and felt like it was repeating itself. Overall an enjoyable and mostly lighthearted read

This book really surprised me, for the better. It’s a cute, queer historical fiction adventure novel that focuses on Monty’s Grand Tour and the subsequent quests that follow. I absolutely loved it: it’s heart-warming, doesn’t read as a YA novel, and is a wonderful read for people in a slump. I’m obsessed with this cast of characters that Lee has created and I can’t wait to read the next books

So this came out quite some years ago now and I remember it being a hype then. It's been on my shelf for so long and I was afraid it might have aged dubiously but no this was actually so much fun!!
I mean it checks all the boxes for me: a queer historical romance with disability and POC rep that has actual good plot, friends to lovers and a badass female character (who is the MC in the sequel which I will DEFINITELY be buying).
The writing was quite compelling, a relief as one of the main reasons I put off reading this for so long is the fact that it's 500 pages long. But I enjoyed it from start to finish. There were enough propelling windings in the plot to keep it interesting and the wit and banter from the characters kept it light and breezy.
Just a good time all the way through with some action and heart.

I was really enjoying it when it was about Monty, Percy and Felicity going on a Grand Tour with a few hitches but once the plot about alchemists and panaceas was introduced I started to enjoy it a little bit less. The real problems Monty and Percy had were more compelling to me (and it's not like they were ignored, I just wish the focus was more on that than the adventure, personally).

It was still pretty fun though and the life and death situations were important to the development of the characters and the romance.
