3.5/5* because it is not groundbreaking but it is easy and enjoyable and even warranted a couple of underlined sentences.

@Gemma got me to read this and read this I did. Love a good silly YA flick, especially if it’s set in places i’ve just come back from.

Very good historical fiction novel that centers on themes that aren’t normally pursued in such novels. It is a good read.

It's a sweet ascerbic YA read. The audio book was fun and not too deep but also thoughtful in terms of characters and pacing and antics.

I started and finished this book via audiobook and reading along with the physical in just a day. It abso-bloody-lutely consumed me lmao! I was hooked from the start with Monty's strong narrative voice and how bold and crass and humorous and bisexual it was in the face of all the trouble he was constantly getting in. I loved his character even more the further he got fleshed out and I just thought him and each of the other main characters were so well-written, I loved their trio dynamic. The plot is a bit wacky but it is definitely a wild adventure that kept me entertained the whole way through and it never felt like it was dragging on. It was very well-paced for a 500 page book. I was also pretty impressed with how the author handled the range of social issues that would be realistic in the setting and time period, and it felt like one of the few times when a white author wrote about people of color with intention beyond just representation and included racial issues without overstepping or being cringey. This book was so fun to read and definitely a great one to read during pride month so I'm so glad I finally got it off my tbr and into my brain lol.

my return to reading from many moons ago! I think I needed something that didn’t have high stakes and I wanted to romance and this came highly recommended. I think this is a teenagers good first introduction to a lot of concepts that I appreciate, including understanding other peoples perspectives, especially those of people of color disability justice, which I really appreciate it because I didn’t expect to find it here. For me personally, I wish we got a little more of why Percy and Monty are in love; you kind of drop into it and it just tells you that they’re in love because they’ve been pining for so long. I’m also excited to see the return of the sister character in the next book and her romance and I also really appreciate where Monty is starts, not really understanding other people’s perspectives and then gross learned I think that’s very good for for a book that teenagers are going to read.
