How do you write a review for a book so perfect?

I’ve spent years boasting how The Dream Job by Kmod is my favorite book she’s ever read and nothing will ever top it. well i’m here to eat my words. Hemlock is the best book not only written by Kmod but ever and that’s a hill I will die on.

Mystery, suspense, spice, ghosts??? if you like any of those (or all of them) this is the book for you!! It was a cant put down, page turning, heart hammering novel that kept my attention from the first page to the absolute last. The only bad thing I have to say about it is that it doesn’t go on forever.

I’m forever in love with the characters in this book and it should be the book of the year if you ask me.

Good story. Love triangle romance, murder mystery, dual timelines.
Kind of wanted to slap some sense into Maggie a few times.

A realistic depiction of a relationship with a narcissist contrasted with the good guy fake-to-real boyfriend trope.

There are some KMod books that don't fit into a genre. I'm never quite sure where things are going to go.... And this is one of those.

It's a lot of romance, a bit of a love triangle ish vibe. Romantic suspense maybe. Even a smidge of paranormal/mystery. But this one wasn't very thriller at all. The twist at the end was highly predictable. The FMC had ZERO backbone.

I did really enjoy the dual timeline and the narration. And was cheering on one of the guys from the start.

Thank you netgalley for this audio book.

I went into this book blind. So, I was not expecting it to be a romance suspense/thriller. I haven’t read many of those but, the ones I have read, I have seemed to enjoy. This book was no exception.

The romance was very well done in my opinion. I loved the tropes that were present: love triangle, fake dating, second chance romance. I got so caught up in the romance at first that I was genuinely surprised by the suspense/thriller elements when they popped up. I thought the balance was well done. I also appreciated how the author chose to jump back and forth between the past and the present. It never felt tedious. I enjoyed both timelines equally.

I would definitely pick up another book by this author.

Maggie is back in her home town after 13 years as a new homeowner. Unfortunately things start to get messy right away. Her ex happens to be her new neighbor and strange things are happening in her new house at night.

New to me author and I doubt it will be my last read by them. This is told in dual timelines with flashbacks into the past in one chapter and present day in the next. There is a love triangle so this romance packs a good amount of angst. Childhood friends to lovers, fake dating a bit as well. The dual timelines of course adds to the suspense as what happened 13 years ago unravels along with the current events in the house.

I found this book very addictive and had a great time reading it. Not too much angst and not too many "tricks of the trade" to annoy the reader. Just a very addicting book that kept me guessing and then changing my guesses with every new reveal.

The last 20% did start to feel a little drawn out and also a little rushed all at the same time? But not too badly and I was satisfied with the answer to all the questions and the HEA.

Great audio by Brittany Pressley.
