I was enjoying this book, but the essay part dragged for me. It was not as good as the poems in the first section of the book. I eventually gave up because it lost my interest.

The poetry is mostly pretty bad (but I’m not a big fan of poetry so take that with a grain of salt). The essays, especially in the latter half of the book, are excellent though. Lots of great insight into the intersections of queer and Chicana identity that are still very relevant.
