It's one of those books where you think you have it figured out but then there's twist after twist, honestly it felt like Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks to me without the romance.

I'm really likening Shari Lapena's books. They are easy to read and follow and they make me think of the Life Time Channel. You can't seem to stop at just one.

Lapena has impressed me again with their new novel, I look forward to more like this and “The Couple Next Door” to hopefully come in 2018.

Lapena, has given me two satisfying reads now. Memorable characters, a believable plot that has you second guessing each of the characters integrity. and that ending, well it is twisted alright!

This is my second book by Shari Lapena and is probably going to be my last. Her latest release seems interesting, but I'm getting really tired of the "domestic thriller".

A Stranger in the House was published back in 2017 and the slew of books that have come out with a similar premise have not been scarce. We have our conventional all American newly wed couple, living in a beautiful house in upstate New York, where nothing can ever go wrong. Enter a car accident, amnesia, a nosey neighbor, a tortured past and a murder - that's the plot everyone.

It has a lot of the single white female vibes, but tries to do so much more. It tells rather than shows, making the connection with the characters harder than it should be. There is a bit of a twist in the end, but by then, there could have been murderous clowns from outer space and I would have felt the same. The entire read felt as if I'm an outsider looking at events and internal thoughts, but never actually being able to connect with any of the characters. I could care less what happened with them - they were instruments to progress a plot. I can't care about a plot when I don't care about the characters. Sorry Lapena.

I picked up this book from a free bookshelf and I kind of get why someone donated it in the first place. Easy enough to read if you ignore the writing in general, but it’s pretty one-dimensional. In the end it just seems to be trying too hard to make you think there’s a twist where there doesn’t need to be one.
