At times I really struggled with this biography. Yet another entry into the Extraordinary Canadians series and I found it lacking. Carr is the renowned post impressionist British Columbian artist. Her works are brilliant. But Desoto's telling of Carr was definitely missing something. I think the major draw back of the book was the editors choice to leave out images. When constructing an artist in biography, especially in describing her paintings, it is very hard to imagine what the art actually looks like. Now the author may not have had a say, who am I to know?

Regardless, if you are interested in Carr or Canadian art this is a good place to start. But apart from that, I feel there are many other books that are more satisfying simply because of images included.
