Although all of the stories were amazing on their own right, the way, they were retold , was usually overwhelming with author dropping ton of names and other facts in what feels few sentences. This makes the book hard to read without rereading parts of the same paragraph. The way some of the stories were retold made them feel boring and uninspiring. But make no mistake this book is full of facts and you can feel that proper research was done before putting everything into this book. Looking back to some of the stories having reimagined them in my head, I am quite happy that I found this book and read it.

Incredible bite sized stories of frontier adventure. Campfire worthy, or with coffee on porch.

There was some language that while time period appropriate, felt hard to listen to out loud (listened to audiobook). My impression was that not a lot of care was taken to use correct terms for different people at points in the book, but all in all a well researched and fascinating collection of short biographies. I’m so thankful to not be living in those times.
