Girly pop Daphne… I was rooting for you!!!!
I wanted to give a higher rating, but I can’t overlook the SA sex scene
Some people can overlook it, but I guarantee that if the roles were reversed and Simon did to her what she did to him, people would be rioting. He was drunk and there’s no excuses!! And I didn’t even like the man, because he was insufferable at times
I am already in the 2nd book and if another SA scene happens, I’ll just give up on the series
My fav part of the book wasn’t even their relationship. I really liked her relationship with her mother. It made me giggle so many times

Read this because Netflix's Bridgerton is my guilty pleasure. It's an entertaining and quick read, and it did satisfy my cravings for some good old romance, though the writing itself is nothing to write home about.

Just like the show, my interest dwindled as the story progressed; it just went downhill for me
after the forced marriage,
both in the book and the show. Too bad because I totally enjoyed the
fake courtship
. It also didn't help that the problematic parts of the show are magnified in the book
(i.e., Daphne's sexual assault on Simon and her disturbing lack of remorse for it)

I also felt like the central issue was resolved too quickly and not so convincingly. I think Julia Quinn did a great job fleshing out Simon's traumatic backstory -- it really made me feel for the character and understand where he's coming from.
That's why I couldn't grasp the concept that Simon was able to just let go of the "incident" after a few weeks because of his ~love~ for Daphne. I get that this is a romance book set in the Regency era, but come on. At least make Daphne realize her mistake and grovel for Simon's forgiveness and have a long talk about it because such deep trauma cannot simply be magically resolved by ~love~.

Anyway, I'd still read the rest of the series. Like I said, it's my guilty pleasure, and I'm not expecting much from it other than feel-good romance and happy endings. But I do hope the rest of the books have better plots and less problematic pairs.

I think aside from
the Daphne taking advantage of drunk Simon
this books would be amazing! Even with that not good plot line, I will be reading the second book.

Ugh I don't know, okay. I am reading them out of order because I didn't like the Daphne assaults Simon storyline in the show and guess what! Shonda was true to the text for that, for some freaking reason. As someone who is childfree by choice, the idea that marriage would be enough for my spouse to decide otherwise makes me want to run into the woods never to be seen again.
I do think Simon's motivations sucked, but there is quite literally nothing that he could have done that would excuse Daphne's behaviors.

I did like Daphne's relationship to her siblings and the banter was fun, but god. I just can't get over how territorial every single man in these books is, and that they are constantly dick measuring about something. That with a literal spousal rape???? Count me OUT.

I'm finishing the series but only because I feel like I have to at this point.
