So this might seem trivial, but I’m taking off half a star because it seemed like Henry lost his southern accent about halfway through. (I only noticed it because I live in South Carolina and I work in retail, so I hear a lot of the ‘southern drawl’.)

The art style, horror movie aspect, and romance between Cade and Henry are my favorite things about Northranger. That kiss scene was just so smooth! I’m not a big horror movie person, but I’ll admit I got swept up in the boys’ love for them. Their relationships flowed very well and the story had the right amount of opposition to it for what this story is.

Again, the art style is one of my favorite elements. The use of soft, curved lines reminds me a bit of Check, Please! - the hockey graphic novel series that’s also queer. BUT I like the warmer color scheme and using white and black around the scene blocks to indicate day or night. Very clever!

So, Northranger is a cute queer romance with darker vibes! Glad I checked it out!

What an interesting combination of horror and queer romance. The characters were so realistic! And Terciero is very skilled at slow revelations. Although I would’ve liked the ending to be more drawn out and filled with queer love, I was satisfied.

I’ve never read Northanger Abbey (though the Author’s note at the end now makes me want to check that out too - I loved this retelling and how the author connected the main character’s queer identity to his love of horror movies and his questioning of mysteries happening all around him. This is a sweet read with a sweet romance as well as meaningful family and friend relationships.

A gay main character who's obsessed with horror films, an ominous gothic mystery taking place in the ranch family's vacation home, and a syrupy sweet forbidden queer romance? Sign me up.

I absolutely loved this graphic novel! Cade is such a sweet little softie and I adored the Henries (especially Henrietta). I appreciated the content warnings in the author's note at the beginning of the book, as this book does involve a fair bit of the cruel realities that queer teens (especially in rural areas) are used to living through, and I thought it was all balanced really well with the fluffy bits to keep things from getting too sad.

I highly recommend this graphic novel and will most likely be grabbing a finished copy for my shelves, because this is the sort of story I could see myself revisiting for sure!

Thank you to the publisher for the review copy! All thoughts are honest and my own.

Representation: Cade is Latinx and gay, Henry is gay, Dale and Alice are Black

This was such a lovely little story.  The art style was so beautiful from the pages to the cover.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel.  The characters were detailed and complex, the setting was done well, the drama/plot twist was entertaining, and I am really happy with how it ended.

Cade's comments were a mood the entire time.  He kinda reminded me of a latinx Nico di Angelo.  His family was really wholesome at the end, I was so happy with the way his parents acted—and I loved how his Abuela knew his secret probably before he even knew.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author/publisher for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
