Loved this book. Wasn't sure what to expect from Graham Norton the author but it wasn't this level of emotionally satisfying story. The book is written SO well, with a real eye for small town Irish life and a lilt of accent in his voice.
Only thing I found missing was a gay character, rather like James Baldwin writing Giovanni's Room about write people, I thought, though they were at least gay white people. Does a gay author have an obligation to write about gay people? Don't know, I was thinking maybe the neighbor or something.
Anyway these are after thoughts as this well written story sailed along so well. Loved the journey.

Graham Norton is a delightful person - that much has surely been established. But I had no idea he was such a charming storyteller, too! Although the main plot twist was heavily foreshadowed and therefore became apparent much too early for my taste, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this debut novel and can't wait to read more from Graham.

A really great read. I enjoyed the gentle humour and tales of rural Ireland. The guarda was likeable and his inner monologue hilarious. I found the ending a little unbelievable and far fetched but it didn't spoil my enjoyment overall

First 2/3 was pretty boring. Last 1/3 was predictable, but enjoyable.
