This was so messed up and very disturbing at some points.
I was absolutely enthralled and engaged and could not stop reading, I needed to find out what happens at the end!
Very descriptive in regards to torture, violence and murder, so be warned.

Very well-written dark mystery/thriller. Chelsea Cain nails the character development, and it was refreshing to read characters that, while manifesting some of the tropes of the genre, were uniquely f'd up in their own, believable ways. Cain paints particularly superior female characters, who aren't necessarily "likeable," which it seems like authors are tempted to make their female characters so as not to put off readers, but they feel real. I suppose that even years ago, Chelsea Cain was unabashedly feminist in portraying an array of female characters who have the right to be unlikable, or even downright evil.
how is reading this book better than watching any crime docuseries?
Fantastic read. Couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed the characters and the writing style. The female serial killer is so unusual, and the Archie-Gretchen relationship was mesmerizing. This reminded me of In the Woods by Tana French and The [b:Girl With the Dragon Tattoo|2429135|The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1)|Stieg Larsson|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1275608878s/2429135.jpg|1708725] by Stieg Larsson. All three books have riveting suspense, intricate plots, and well-developed characters.
This book was really good! It's been awhile since I read a book that had me on the edge wondering what would happen. I'll definitely read more of these!
Gretchen Lowell emang sakit!
Karena tidak pernah baca Dexter dan hanya nonton sepotong, plus pas nonton Silence of the Lambs dulu ngga terlalu ingat juga, kayaknya Gretchen ini pembunuh serial yang jauh lebih "edan" ketimbang Dexter ataupun Hannibal. Ngga cuma menyayat Archie, minumin Archie cairan pembersih, ngambil limpanya (jangan makan pas baca ini. Terutama pas baca adegan Gretchen deskripsikan dia ambil usus kecil salah satu korbannya. Dijamin hoeks hoeks), maku tulang iganya, Gretchen sukses bikin Archie "jatuh cinta". In twisted way, of course.
Jadi mikir, apakah Gretchen ini too evil to be real. Atau imajinasi Chelsea Cain emang segila itu, karena bisa bikin saia kagum sama Gretchen. Bisa bikin terobsesi sama cewe psiko itu, sama kayak Archie.
Buat baca bareng BBI dengan tema thriller, walau thrillernya yang asli ngga terlalu terasa. Terlalu terpana sama Gretchen :S
