Salacious, twisted and dark, dark, dark. I have to say I found a new author, Chelsea Cain. She writes so well. This book is definitely different than other mysteries. The characters are very well developed. I was not expecting the outcome of what the book was about. This surely isn't for the faint of heart.
First book in the Sheridan/Lowell thriller series that wanders into Hannibal Lecter territory (SILENCE OF THE LAMBS by Thomas Harris).
This book! If you love thrillers you MUST read this one!
Read this if you love:
▫️A lady Serial Killer.
▫️A morally grey Hero
▫️A task force
Pretty sure this was a goodreads suggestion and maybe the best one they ever made!
This book follows three main characters.
Archie Sheridan: The police office tasked to catch the a serial killer terrorizing Portland. As he is closing in he is kidnapped and tortured by the Beauty killer. Gretchen Lowell: is the beauty killer. After almost killing Archie she mysteriously surrenders and saves Archie’s life. Susan Ward: is a reporter who is assigned to profile Archie’s ordeal and his work on his next assignment.
I basically loved everything about this book. It’s dark and gritty and features a mystery in a mystery! So much intensity and you won’t be able to put it down. This book is so unique I don’t think I’ve read one like this before! You know so much going in but there is so much more left to happen. It has all elements I want in a thriller. A great sociopath, a detective procedural story and emotional family issues. Lastly it’s a series! Need I say more! I mean I want to say so much more but I don’t want to ruin it! Read Heartsick!

I could not turn this book off - one more reason to be unhappy when arriving at work in the morning! I must find the other books in this series!
Graphic, compelling and twisted enough to completely hold my attention this is one book I will not recommend to my mother-in-law. I would however strongly recommend this to anyone with even the slightest interest in crime scene books and the ability to enjoy a lot of glaring detail!

Goede thriller! Heel sterk personage dat er gebruikt wordt! Ik ben benieuwd hoe dat verder gaat verlopen verder in de serie.
This thriller didn't grab me. Damaged detective Archie was caught in a murderer's lair years ago, and now he's on the case of a new serial killer although he still visits the murderer who almost killed him in prison regularly.
Susan, a damaged reporter with her own past, trails Archie on the new case, but it might be that she has her own connection to the case.
I suppose the plot sounds interesting enough, but reading it didn't compel me, and I often just scanned instead of reading it.

A bit disturbing but I really liked this one. Reminded me a bit of Thomas Harris with Silence of the Lambs.
