Read this in a day. LOVE books that make me put down my laptop and read for hours :D
dark emotional mysterious reflective tense fast-paced

"Gloriously Gruesome Suspense..." said the Staff Pick bookmark inserted in this book. Boy, does that hit the nail on the head. Still, I devoured it, gruesome though it was. How could I not? It's written by the woman I think of as my "older sister" (a theoretical relationship similar to the one I have with my "movie boyfriend" Edward Norton) and the book is set firmly in actual, recognizable Portland.

The serial killer/murder mystery is not really my genre (aside from the book couple--Kenzie/Gennaro--I want to marry) and I suspect this story might be a tiny bit predictable. I had to skip entire pages of text because I don't do torture. Still, aside from those things, how could I not love a book set in my born-again home town, with a main character subletting a condo not far from where I work and dialogue such as this:

"Archie will explain. He's downstairs in the car. I couldn't find a fucking place to park. Your neighborhood is awash with ambling Yuppies."

Can I really refer to a gruesome, disturbing book as delightful? With my soft spot for Chelsea Cain, indeed I can.

It's been a while since I've read a thriller, and this one was really great. It was creepy enough that I couldn't read it while I was home by myself, and the plot was easy to follow without giving away the ending.

OMG!

Not what I expected, I think I’m realizing I’m just not into police procedural type thrillers. So many characters and I wasn’t connecting to any of them really. Also, was listening on audio and I didn’t care for the narrator.

This book is incredibly dark and twisted, and even though I read it years ago, I still remember the flashbacks to when Archie was being tortured by Gretchen with shocking clarity. I’m glad I stumbled across this book on Goodreads, and I’ll definitely be looking for the second in the series sometime soon.

Well, it took me less than 48 hours to read this book, cover to cover, so I guess to say I enjoyed it would be an understatement!

Great characters whom you want to learn more about, tense structure, it was a total indulgent summer book read.

Will definitely be reading more in this series.

I don’t have much to say, other than this book was wild lol

Grotesquely beautiful.

I haven't read a lot of crime and mystery novels and Heartsick set the bar high. I was creeped out, disturbed, and amazed all at the same time. The book was gruesome and brutal but that made the whole thing more exciting to read.

I expected loads of things from this book (all of which were met with flying colors)but I definitely did not expect the humor. I did not anticipate to be torn - I wanted Archie to get over his infatuation for Gretchen but I wanted him to recover as well.

I have a thing for psychopaths and gorgeous ones just make me squeal. Add hair-raising mysteries, badass protagonists, twisted romances, and it's basically my kind of a sleepless of night.
