Questa saga continua ad appassionarmi moltissimo: è tutt'altro che una storia perfetta, ma Kristoff ha la capacità di creare un mondo estremamente immersivo e affascinante, popolato da personaggi a cui è molto difficile non affezionarsi.
C'è un grosso problema di fondo: tutto il piano che tiene insieme gli avvenimenti di questo secondo volume non ha il minimo senso. E sì, so che questo dovrebbe essere sufficiente a scoraggiare un potenziale lettore. Ma la verità è che, in tutta sincerità, a me non è importato. Perché il viaggio per portare a termine questo piano è stato talmente bello che sono stata soddisfatta di averlo percorso, e chissenefrega se forse percorrerlo non era affatto necessario.
In questo secondo volume abbandoniamo le atmosfere da Hogwarts un po' malriuscita della Montagna Silente per trovarci al centro di un'arena chiaramente ispirata al Colosseo, e ho trovato che questa nuova ambientazione fosse costruita in maniera molto più coerente e credibile rispetto alla Chiesa Rossa: regole e competizioni hanno un grande fondamento storico, e ho molto apprezzato tutta la vita cameratesca esplorata qui.
Lo stile è, come sempre, accattivante e assolutamente magnetico: non sono proprio riuscita a staccarmi da queste pagine, che ho divorato, nonostante il periodo decisamente frenetico.
Al di là della trama più immediata, poi, questo libro getta delle ottime basi per andare a indagare la vera natura di Mia, del suo legame con la tenebra e della sua caratura morale.
È molto difficile, a questo punto, aspettare troppo tempo per proseguire nella lettrua del terzo e ultimo volume.

Once again I was not dissapointed in this hauntingly dark and brutally poetic book that Kristoff has wrote as a second book in the Nevernight series.

The book starts with a twisted storyline that gets you lost in the life of Mia Corvere, her all powerful need for vengence that blinds her as the suns hinder her shadows.

This book is filled with characters that are fantastic, all with their flaws and their charms. Mia especially, I love her wit and sarcasm, how she can appear all together cold and brutal but also soft and caring.

It is filled to the brim with deep and beautiful passages and lines that I want to keep with me always! And I am reminded of how well Kristoff creates and describes this world.

This was also the first book that I kept notes on, and it was nice to look back on, to see my thought process throughout it.
