I AM A THOT FOR THIS SERIES. This is not a critical, well thought-out review. No thoughts, all vibes. I love it. Give me more immediately. I will be re-reading this entire series this year. If I had to comment on anything, it would be how neatly everything wrapped up, it was a little TOO clean. NOT THAT I'M COMPLAINING. Anything else probably would have broken me.

I'm so sad, I have to leave this world and these characters behind. I'm very much emotionally attached to them by now, and I just miss them already.
I love the series as a whole with all my heart, every single book leading up to the finale was perfect for me in its own way and I can say that the ending was very satisfying.
That being said, I think this last book is the weakest one of them all. And by weakest I mean it's a 4/4,5 stars instead of 5 for me.
This book is very fast-paced, very action packed. All the loose strands come together and the reveals and the actions are super satisfying and make sense. But.... because of all the action and plot, I didn't get as many character moments as I wanted. My favorite parts of these books have always been the characters and their interactions, and we get a ton of those in the first four books. Here, not so much. When we get them, these chapters and scenes really shine. I couldn't stop grinning when my faves were interacting with each other. Unfortunately, that didn't happen very often and towards the end, you have this huge cast of very fleshed out main and supporting characters, but you don't get to say goodbye to all of them properly. They come together for this epic last battle... and then the story is over. I get that because there are so many characters, it would take ages to wrap up all their personal endings. But in this case, I really would have needed it.

I still need more people to read these books, so here are some of my final thoughts regarding the whole series:
It's an epic story with a really cool plot. It's complex and confusing and wild. You kind of have no idea what exactly is going on for about ... 2-3 books, but it's so much fun to find out. The world building is phenomenal. All the different regions and cultures that have different concepts about gender and sexuality. It was such a delight to explore these. Oh, and these books are super queer. Is there even a straight character in them? It's harder to tell than you would think. Then there is the history and the religions and so so much to explore.
It surprised me how refreshing and funny the writing style was. Although, the world building is very extensive, there are not many descriptions. There are a lot of dialogues (I love the dialogues so so much), lots of action (usually I'm not a fan of battle scenes... but I even enjoyed these here because they were so creative and well done), internal thoughts and hilarious footnotes commenting everything that is happening. Oh, it was exactly my kind of humor. And the language is very modern, not what you imagine when you think of epic fantasy series.
Have I... already mentioned the characters?
You know, the whole time I was reading these books, I was looking forward to reading fan fiction about my fav characters and pairings... just to find out there is exactly 1 online!?!?! That's actually unacceptable.
