Wow it has been awhile since I've read these books, but I'm so pumped to be back!

Remember the precious little 'thug' villains from the first entry? Well now they're just hanging out with Knucklebuster's daughter (the one who was possessed by the evil bee thinger) and it's honestly really darling. Especially when the hot leader is kind of flirting with her, I ship that. Random, but cute.

They have a really cute Christmas party (honestly perfectly timed for when I read it) and find out that not only is Captain Celebrity married, but his wife is giving birth to their child so he's going to go back to the US to be with her. I truly cannot remember if it's mentioned he was married, but it's so sweet. Later we get this flashback to when they first met and it's genuinely darling. His wife is this teeny thing (the author said her look is kind of like La Brava's where she's small and looks child-like and I totally see that) and she was super grumpy and so not into him. I just love a grumpy/sunshine pair and that he clearly works so much harder to earn her affection because when she gives him a smile it means so much more, it's really sweet. Though in present day they're not doing the best, though I can't imagine him working in a crazy far away country is helping that, so I'm glad he's going back to her even if I'll be sad not to get more of him.

There's a random side-plot of Aizawa doing investigating alongside that one hero with the weird crab hair, but there's a montage of him in a bunch of random outfits which are hilarious, but Koichi catches him in a specifically GORGEOUS suit with his hair half up, my true weakness good lord yes omg. It's also a crime we only see him behind and profile with his hair in a ponytail and a peacoat/scarf combo, ugh that man is so fine bless. It's so clear the artist had so much fun with his concept, I want more sexy Aizawa always.

So Makoto decides to throw a who's who of heroes bday party for him at the sky egg (kind of looks exactly like the space needle, but Japan's version I guess), which y'know a crap ton of the best heroes in one place, totally not a beacon for a disaster. The ponytail/scarred villain introduced last book has developed these nomu-type creatures that also blow up on his command so to do that in a legit floating building, not great. He also figures out watching CC fight that he's not invincible if he can get through his protective shields. It gets so bad that CC even tells Crawler to tell his wife and kid he's sorry and that he hopes they're proud of him. But I love how far Koichi has come in his abilities to try and assist CC and showing him sometimes it's not about being able to do everything yourself but last long enough to get backup that can assist, I think for the big, flashy heroes that's a hard concept to wrap your brain around and it's a sweet moment. Especially to get help from people like Edgeshot, Riuku, and Best Jeanist. But of course we end with a cliffhanger that the villain had another exploding nomu to cause more trouble, so whelp that's a continued conflict. Hopefully I won't wait so long til the next one!

I liked CC a little more in this one, but that’s not saying much. I really don’t understand the villain’s motives. But Aizawa in a suit was a real highlight.
