And it is in such a way, with a mixture of reserve and of daring, of submission and revolt carefully concerted, of extreme demand and prudent concession, that I have finally learned to accept myself.

Read it sitting in various gardens (and my hair salon) in installments. I think that's the way to go.

My parents are walking Hadrian's Wall. Right now.

Liked it.

No quiero apresurarme, pero esto va directo a mis all-time faves, mayhaps

A book you shouldn't miss. This is literature at its highest value. There are no words I could write here that could make justice to the greatness of this book.

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh! Too many metaphors, a language that is rather pompous and too many digressions. Could not care less although I am sure there is loads to learn from it, this is not something to read for pleasure imo. Dnfed on page 100 or so.

the prose was exquisite and almost too rich. She is/was definitely a "somnambulistic" writer (i.e. one who uses words like somnambulist).
it came across very real, almost to a fault in that it suffered in enjoyableness. the ending was very good though.
if you read this i highly recommend looking up pictures and wikipedia articles about the things mentioned e.g. the pantheon, hadrian's mausoleum, hadrian's villa, even his graffito on the statue of Memnon in Egypt
