Dave’s honesty and vulnerability created a welcoming environment for us all to join in his life journey.

While the format is linear overall, it is divided by the overarching themes of the musician’s life which was a breath of fresh air in autobiographical storytelling. Not a dull moment, not an anecdote that bored.

Dave’s open discussion of proud moments with his children (especially the talent show) brought me to tears.

All in all, I was impressed with this true work of art that Dave has created. A brilliant musician, but this shows that he’s truly an even better human being.

Essential reading for artists, writers, performers, and of course, for any former grunge kid.

Don't expect a chronological story and you will adore this book. I had no fierce connection to Dave Grohl prior to reading it. I knew who he was, the Foo fighters and Nirvana are kinda hard not to know. I also think this may have been my first musician autobiography. But he is at heart a story teller. The way he paints pictures with his words is fantastic. His voluminous name drops aren't pretentious because he says them all with awe and love. Honestly just read it.
