Nostalgic, mostly fun, anecdotes from the author's life told with much love and respect for his family and musicians who have inspired him. Even if you're only somewhat familiar with his music, his stories of meeting/performing/collaborating with so many other artists, crossing genres, are entertaining. He addresses the death of Kurt Cobain during his days with Nirvana and how that put him in a tailspin, so it's heartbreaking to imagine how the recent death of Foo Fighters bandmate, Taylor Hawkins, affected him, when he refers to him throughout this book as his best friend. He talks about his daughters and being a father, but remains private about meeting his wife and their relationship.

I had put this book on hold at the library and then realized he read the audiobook and quickly switched my hold. This was a joy to listen to, as a long time fan of Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters I figured I would love this, but it really exceeded my expectations. He really is a great storyteller and so entertaining, and his stories are actually interesting and relevant, especially if you are a lover of music- particularly punk and rock, there's just so much music history in this book. I haven't laughed out loud and cried so much during a book in a while. There's also a spotify playlist of all the songs and bands he references in this book, it's a lot!

I <3 Dave Grohl. He’s such a natural storyteller and his positive outlook on life was so fun to inhabit while listening to this book. It was basically a long love letter to his mom which gets me every time. Highly recommend listening to the audiobook, it really just felt like I was hanging out in a room with him while he told me WILD life stories (Joan Jett reading his daughter bed time stories?! I mean come on). He’s a guy I really want to be friends with, down to earth with great nuggets of wisdom, this book was just a delight!

Dave Grohl seems like the most down to Earth musician to walk the planet. His story of faking it until you make it is inspiring and hilarious.
