This audiobook is entertaining and hilariously funny. The title is misleading—Boston Corbett is the guy who killed John Wilkes Booth, and he simply disappeared from history (after threatening to kill a lot of other people). Edwin Booth had nothing to do with the death of his brother or Boston Corbett (as far as we know…). Still, this is an interesting look into the weirdness of life in the US around the time of the Civil War—and the lives of two guys who were inadvertently connected to one of the crimes of the century.

I am completely "middle of the road" on this book. Yes, it was humorous, and interesting. But being written by a comedian isn't necessarily a plus. I wasn't quite sure where the dividing line was between historical accuracy and comedic embellishment for effect.

If you are looking for historical humor, along the same vein as Saturday Night Live/political satire/Bill Maher, possibly at the expense of those with disabilities or diminished mental ability... this could be your thing.

If you are looking for historical accuracy, unbiased reporting, or undisputed fact... this might not be for you.

It is short enough that it won't take too long to figure out if it is your thing or not.

A funny chronicle of all of the major players in the Lincoln assassination (minus Lincoln of course). As a history nerd, I knew that John Wilkes Booth had an actor brother who was more famous than him. What I did not know was that the whole family acted. I'd also never heard the story of Boston, the truly insane man who killed John Wilkes Booth. Honestly, his story is completely out of touch with reality and could have been a book of its own. The only place this book fell flat for me was in the tone. The irreverent tone was funny at times, but stilted at others. It reads the way a blog post might. But I do appreciate that it makes the history feel more accessible and relevant to the modern day.
