This is the 5th book in this action-packed, emotional series. Each book can, technically, be read as a stand alone, but there is a lot going on in this series and I recommend reading them in order. Honestly, if you want to get the most enjoyment out of them, I recommend reading The Alpha Elite series first. That's more optional, though.

This story is about Steil, the leader of the Elite unit in this area, and his Omega, Macy. There's a twist in this one though and things aren't what they seem. There's danger, excitment, brutallity, love, passion, heat and healing, and all of things will keep you emotionally engaged from beginning to end. There are elements of darkness, but I wouldn't say the overall story is a dark on, at least not in this one. This one has a lot of tenderness and Steil is a very understanding and patient Alpha. He's able to control himself to a level not usually seen in the dynamic and it made me love him even more. The things that Macy experiences both broke my heart and made her the perfect mate for such a strong Alpha. Just like the last book, the story finishes with diving into the next one and I can't wait to read it.

Story: Fashion designer Macy (h) is on the cusp of achieving the success she’s longed for when she’s kidnapped by International Science Corps (ISC) soldiers to be experimented on and changed into something new. Commander Steil (H) ponders the changes in his team as they’ve found their mates when he finds himself drawn to the deserts of Mai’Cus where he finds Macy has been left by the ISC. Macy struggles to accept the changes wrought by the experiments that have transformed the beta-born woman into an omega, even as Steil tries to help his mate, as her knows her to be. Lots of action and adventure takes place, but the story is more about Macy’s balance of her new persona and struggling to retain her old one, even as she comes to accept Steil. A dark and intense fated mates Omegaverse romance with plenty of heat, including heats, rutting, claiming, knotting and more.

Audio: The narrators did an excellent job with this story and really helped bring it to life from the written word. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I really like when authors choose to use two narrators, a male narrator and a female narrator, as it makes such a difference to hear male dialogue with a male voice and female dialogue with a female voice. Curt Bonnem again does an excellent job with the tone of voice he brings to Steil and other male voices, and Lessa Lamb gave Macy voice that seemed to capture her character, from the opening chapter when she’s working as a fashion designer to times when she’s struggling with the changes in her identity.

An okay story, on the shorter side. I like how the omega warred with herself but wish there was more to the story.
