To say I was engrossed is an understatement - the plot was beautifully written, and the writing cemented my thought, as I was not even halfway through, that this would immediately become a favourite of mine. The author has really mastered the act of “showing not telling”, which I also think works really well in a mystery, and the main character’s perspective of writing while reflecting on the events in hindsight was something I really enjoyed.
Graphic: Death and Blood
Moderate: Vomit, Kidnapping, Addiction, and Suicide
Minor: Child abuse, Car accident, Fire/Fire injury, Drug use, Infidelity, Drug abuse, Suicidal thoughts, and Child death

Finally… A book that doesn’t have a rushed ending! The book was written at the perfect pace and the reveal was neatly wrapped and given to the reader with a big red bow.
The writing style was interesting. The book was written by the main character, the detective of the story, if you will, in first person. The story teller would add quips here and there “post-edit.” It don’t think it did much for the story line itself, but it definitely made the character more likable.
I was a bit sad about I wanted more for them and felt like they didn’t deserve the ending that they got.

Holy. Shit. That’s about all I can say about this book. It was the last book I read in 2022 and I spent about half an hour trying to explain it to my sister and husband but still didn’t do it Justice. So many twists and turns. Pretty sure I said, “What the hell!?” Multiple times. 100% recommend!
