they had me in the first half, not gonna lie

kirill ist der most insecure man, den ich je gesehen hab. he is supposed to be a heartless monster but was the monster in a room with us?

🔫 Mafia romance
🔪 bodyguard
🤫 she's disguised as a man
😱 secret plots?!

This was perfect start to finish for me. All the emotions. The cackling, gasping, outrage, cackling, tears, more cackling. Kirill's still working hard to secure his place at the top of the Bratva. Sasha is torn between her loyalty to her family which is wavering each day because of things not adding up vs her loyalty to Kirill.

This one moved a lot faster than the first and I'm really really hooked now. I don't know how I'll let Sasha and Kirill go. They're so perfectly imperfect to me with all their secrets and mistrust. Yet they have explosive chemistry and banter I can't get enough of.

Something that frequently amuses me is seeing the ice cold Kirill descend further and further with his jealousy over Sasha. He gets real petty and irrational. And his one track mind/sense of humor for all things sex is hilarious. It kinda makes me think of Killian's type of obsessive/perverted humor.

And Sasha's growth! She was kinda annoying to me here and there first book but she really grew on me here. And her struggles with her identity as a woman having to dress as a man but is in love with a man ugh 🥺 my poor lady. That was a sucker punch.

But her compassion (instead of pure naivety) really shone better in this book. They sooo needed that to balance with Kirill's cold manipulation. And I love her fierce protectiveness over Kirill.

Heck it's mutual fierce protectiveness. They're crazy for each other to the point of toxicity bahaha. I love it. Sure they both made stupid and stubborn decisions regarding each other, but I was eating up the crumbs of their sweet little moments together! The hugs, the birthdays, and gifts. 🥺 these two will have a special place in my heart.

The side characters 🤌 they add some pizzazz to the story. I love how Sasha is just befriending everyone much to Kirill's dismay and jealousy. He's jealous even of his own siblings who are close with her. Karina is an icon. Maksim and Yuri? 😏 Konstantin isn't who I thought he was. He's turning out much kinder.

Definitely have my theories about who's behind all this.

And that ending though! 😱 what a cliffy. Good thing I'm reading this when the whole series is out. 😎

3 out of 5 ☆’s.

“In the middle of the blurry ambiguity stands something real. And that's the only thing I currently believe in.”

Why? 😵‍💫

I was not a fan of that ending (or Kirill’s character throughout most of this book). I loved him in Blood of My Monster, but he was just doing wayy too much in this book.

I miss Kirill + Sasha from the first book. :(

I think I missed some crucial information about a certain someone because I did NOT see that ending coming. I have noe idea what's going on and my heart took the ending very personal.

I love Ria and Karina. I wish we get more of especially Karina in the next and last book.

(And I see many reviewers complaining about the noise they would make in the bedroom. You guys know soundproofing exist, right?)

Knowing this was a trilogy, I expected the frustration that would come to book 2 and there was a lot of shaking my head at Sasha and Kirill. I did enjoy this book more than the first, but still a bit of a struggle. But in fantastic Rina fashion, she really picks things up towards the end and guts us with a cliffhanger.

My angst loving self savored the bits we got, but I was starting to seethe at Kirill. I wasn't loving the manipulation he was doing and cue more frustration towards Sasha. I kind of expected more from her, so I was surprised we didn't see much character growth.

I was waiting for the twists to come and it didn't quite hit as hard as they usually do. I'm so glad the third book comes out soon because I'm curious to see what happens next.

Narration: we have a duet narration with Brooke Daniels and Sebastian York. Like the first book, still think they were solid choices. The only thing that I didn't quite like was the narration was a duet for side character voice overs. Felt a little off, I wish they just kept it to the MCs.

I liked this book much more than the first. The betrayal. The winning back trust. The possessiveness. I could kinda guess  what was going to happen in the end and kinda disappointed in our FMC naiveness and our MMC for letting me down man! It still hurt reading the end even seeing it coming. Excited for the third to come out but am kinda wondering where the plot would go really
