Not as good as the first but still very enjoyable. I could have done with more conclusion and maybe 3 more books. I love this world and I hope it’s not the last we see of it!

This book was torture! I have a hard time reading female characters that seem so weak but you know they're strong, and eventually they see the strength in themselves! It's a classic YA recipe for a female hero! But alas, I still enjoy reading these books despite the classic pitfalls.

The ending was very satisfying. I was pleased with how Roth pulled the story together. I'm left with no further questions.

Der erste Band hat gereicht

Hmmmm... I liked the plot twist and didn't expect it but overall, the book was clunky. The characters were inconsistent at times and it was very long, considering that not a lot happened.

SpoilerI think the solution to "dying for the family Noavek" was a bit of a cop-out. Did Cyra actually die? I didn't think she did. While I always like when main characters get to live, it seemed like cheating. Same thing with Cisi "succumbing" but not actually succumbing. to the knife.

A lot of people commented in their reviews that they didn't like Cisi's chapters. On the contrary, those were the chapters I liked the best. She was such a nuanced character - she had to watch her father die and brothers get taken, just like Akos, and she had a deadly fate but she still managed to be pretty normal. It was also interesting to see her try to overcome her gift's limitations. I didn't like how the last chapter made it seem like she was manipulating Isae's ruling of the planet. She didn't have any malicious intention; she used her gift to allow Isae's better judgement to prevail in her decision-making.

I am not sure if the author is leaving things open for a spin-off (a la all of those Four books) but I really didn't like the ending for Eijah. It was completely open-ended and although Eijah didn't have much of a personality, I wanted him to be saved for Akos' and the rest of his family's sake. Very unsatisfying.

Obsessed. Love.
