«Ti odio» dissi.
«E io ti amo.»

3.75/5. I started this book almost over a year ago and got about a third of the way when I went into the worst reading slump i’ve ever experienced. I really thought i’d never read for fun again. Which is where i went wrong with this book. I had forgotten everything about the characters. Everything. So i was not attached in anyway at all. It even got to the point where i was annoyed with every character. Cisi and Isae were the worst of them all. Ast was kinda right about Cisi! Not to say that he wasn’t slimey from the beginning or that he was right to judge her when he was doing the exact same thing. Which brings me to my unanswered questions/ wtf thoughts:
-What did the Assembly have to say when Isae didn’t agree to what they were asking?
-so their society will divide based on what they think of oracles... it’s got me asking what was the point? it’s too open ended for me. yes lazmet was the bad guy but it seemed like the Assembly seemed like the actual antagonist cuz... isn’t that how a dystopia works?
-Eijeh/Ryzek was a big let down. It seemed like Roth was about to pull a Itachi/Sasuke sibling dynamic with Cyra but no... it was unsatisfying. Them somehow being connected to Isae was POINTLESS lmaooo. they literally revealed that at the last minute like “oh btw i have a piece of the chancellor in me somehow so i know how she works” and then fucking left!!! huh?? and then!! you’re telling me that they were the “one” who tipped off those guards?? where did that come from lmaooo. that was so extra and then had the nerve to say “oh i just needed to get away from HER” looking at cyra lol.
-the scene where cisi and isae go to that fancy dinner with the assembly people and she’s describing in FULL DETAIL what their bodies look like was... weird. cringey even. it’s giving me “men writing women” vibes ://
-the scene where cyra attempted to kill lazmet first was weak. unsatisfying. she should’ve died. jkjk
-the way cisi gives herself credit for saving the universe or whatever

I love it! At some point near the end i thought that one or both of them will die? Thank god it didn't happen lol and it's nice that this book has a very clear ending.
It was good! A little anticlimactic but intressting and sweet. You should read this if you like her other work (Divergent). I wonder if it was ment to be a third book in the series? I liked that the setting was different from what I usually read. Still dystopia cind off, but more sci-fi.
I liked this novel much more than the first one.
I found book one to be really boring to the point where I didn't remember what I had just read ten minutes earlier. BUT I did enjoy the ending which is why I decided to give this one a go, because I wanted to see where the story would go.
The plot started interesting right away. Cyra and Akos were really great characters in this one and I loved seeing how their plots and relationship developed. I also enjoyed the new POV that we got! It was really cool seeing inside this new person's head and getting to see this other plot through this.
We also got to see more of the political dynamics of other places and how they all weaved together which was really interesting.
There was an awesome plot twist that I didn't see coming and I thought was really well done. Once it was revealed it made tons of sense. But that being said, I think after the reveal things went down hill. Plots diverged, things got complicated, and I feel like we never got all the answers.
I feel like there should be another book coming with the way it ended. One problem was solved, but the rest are still there...

Cyra is such a strong character, so resilient and i admire her courage to get back on her feet and walk ahead.
Akos is the perfect partner to Cyra. They're like yin and yang and he complements her just right. I love how he sticks with her through all the bullshit but when it was his turn to fall down, Cyra was there to pick him up and save them.
Overall, I was surprised that i was able to finish this in one sitting. The story was very gripping and I just flew through its pages.
I was not of a fan of Cisi and Eijeh's POV that much but it was important for them to share their voices.
I'm glad the ending was satisfying and that was what I wished when I started this duology.

Better written than its prequel.
The characters develop and evolve into something more than they were, and the storyline is more interesting than one might have hoped for.
It's not perfect, though, and could have been even more intense. It is as if there is still parts of this story that hasn't been told.

I seem to have liked this book much better than the first. I don’t know if it was because I was already familiar with the words and characters or if it was just better. But I really enjoyed this one much more. I’m not sure I liked the ending though. I feel like it was left too open-ended with Eijah and Cisi for my taste. I don’t know if she’s planning a spin-off series because the way she left it, she definitely could. Not sure how popular a spinoff with Eijah would be, however.
I went into this book expecting amazing things...i got that. right up until the end. I feel like the way it ended was abrupt and a bit of a cop-out an easy way out and something that's been done before. 😂 damn it.
