DID NOT FINISH

Since I had DNF the first book, I obviously didn’t read this one.

This is Veronica Roth (she is great!) and this world and these characters were very interesting and original, but I can't say I'm fully satisfied with the ending. It kinda felt like an open ending to me with the amount of loose ends. Don't get me wrong, I loved the big twist but I wanted a bit more resolution on several aspects.
Spoiler First of all, Cyra and Akos never really talked about what it meant that they essentially lived each other's lives. It seems to me that would have a huge potential to interfere in their relationship, especially on Cyra's part. If I were Cyra I know I would be more than a little bitter. Second, I can't believe Sifa got away with everything she did just by blaming it on her oracle role and her visions. Third, why did Ylira just go along with Sifa's plan if Shotet and Thuvhe were already enemies back then? Wouldn't she be suspicious of Sifa? Fourth, what about Eijeh/Ryzek? Who are they right now and what are they going to do? Fifth, why is Isae still a Chancellor after basically trying to commit genocide? Sixth, why were there no consequences for the Assembly after they plotted and schemed to help in the destruction of a nation? Seventh, why was there no true showdown between Cyra and Lazmet? After all, they never talked about their past and how he was basically the origin of all evils. As far as I'm concerned, Cyra and not Akos should have been the one killing Lazmet.
And that's it. Those are my issues. I wish I had answers, but I'm also not completely dissatisfied. I enjoyed the journey of almost all characters. Can't wait to know what Veronica has in store for us.

Eh, I'm ambivalent about this. I didn't really feel anything relative to the main characters, and the structure and climax felt off. Maybe it was because I waited too long between reading the first book and the sequel? A common problem, but it feels like something better writing could fix.

DID NOT FINISH: 33%

Ok, so I DNF‘ed about 33% through.

I think, the only reason I even got this far is the fact that Austin Butler narrated  Akos in the audiobook and he has a very pleasant voice.

Besides that, I am frustrated as fuck with this. There was SO MUCH POTENTIAL.

Ok, so I liked the way this was developing. With the dad coming back and declaring war and Cisi and the chancellor starting a relationship. But WTF was this effing stupid forced break up between Cyra and Akos?! The plot - so far - as well as the character development was so well though out and now this bullshit makes me want to rip my hair out. Her argument is that she needs someone to choose her - ok fair enough. Enter Akos who, from the moment they met, tried his hardest to get to know her, HER his enemy. He protects her when she needs no protection, comforts her, and even CHOSES her plan over his. So, essentially, this dude, even though it’s his fate to die in service of the Noavaks, chose to do more than that and loves her with all his heart. And STILL she’s like „hm, still no thanks“. What a stupid shit show, and the plot and characters just fell so flat

i really screwed myself with not just immediately reading this but i love this duology and i love veronica roth

SpoilerThis book was good. I don't really know why there was a Cisi point of view. And I didn't like reading Eijh chapters either. I also dont know why Akos was third person. I feel like I would have connected with him more if it was first. I though he was third person because he was going to die. I like how she wrapped up the book, though it felt a little fast after the main events. I totally called Cyra and Akos being switched at birth. I really liked the time spent on Ogra. I was a little confused why Cyra was mad at Akos about choosing her over his fate. That wasn't really clear to me. Overall, it was a fun book to read.
