Man, this is a mammoth book. It took me two whole weeks to read this and near the end I really started to skim by the chapter.
I really liked the character growth that the main character, Moran, underwent. He is a standard asshole lover type of character (scum gong for those who know the term) and the first 70% involves a thorough reworking of his character. He becomes more in touch with the actual facts and his own feelings and spends about 1.8k pages untangling his issues and gaining more and more clarity about himself. He begins to give up on superficial rewards (money, food, power), realizing that they leave him emotionally empty and even more grasping. It was very rewarding reading this.
As he came more and more in touch with the truth, he began to feel more guilt for his past violent, abusive, empty, grasping and power-hungry actions. I also really loved the tsun/shameless dynamic between the main two. It's hilarious at times. There were some really good tearjerker scenes. I loved the entire middle part where Moran learns everything that had been kept from him (the wanton scene).
I really didn't like the actual plot - all the stuff other than Moran and Chu Wanning's relationship development. I felt that some things were too coincidental, the book is way too long and I started to struggle to stay interested. The last one quarter's stuff just felt too gratuitous, too exaggerated, too melodramatic to me and I skimmed most of it.
Another thing that irked me was the underlying misogyny in the novel. Pretty much all the female characters were either weak, sluts, or bitches. Really frustrating.
I would have been very happy if the book had just ended with Moran's redemption. The first half of the book was easily a five-star, but the last one quarter was really not my cup of tea.

The amount of emotional distress i went through while reading this novel… all Mo Ran ever wanted in life was to be a good person, but basically every single happy memory and emotion besides intense anger were taken from him and he didn’t even realise what he lost or how he was a pawn in someone else’s game all along…
It’s the way he lost all reason to live after Chu Wanning died and he didn’t understand why, the way the admiration and love he had for Chu Wanning was twisted in a way he couldn’t even tell it was love… All Chu Wanning wanted was for Mo Ran to be happy but he ended up blaming himself for the person Mo Ran turned out to be in their first lifetime, even though it was in no way his fault….
That’s especially why Mo Ran’s character development hits you so hard in the second lifetime, he was such a kind and honest person all along, but the opportunity to be the person he wanted to be was taken from him in his first life…

本来想说：3.5星，往上提主要是不带脑子读的还是很开心的，但单反多想一想感觉3星更适合吧。不过他真的把我逗乐了无数次，也让我哭过，广播剧反正是免费的应该会有一搭没一搭地听，所以并不排斥的。（also这应该是我度过车最最最多的比本书了吧。。。）
后来改成3.5星往下拽因为发现有1/3的剧情并没有很在意。。就打了0.5星
我一开始就没怎么看进去这个修真界，所以也没太吧各个门派，掌门啊，长老啊太看在眼里。可以说从始至终在乎的就三点：CP要如何走到一起 & 怎么解释重生 & 作者要怎么圆才能让我非常开心的说“嗯，他两就应该在一起”
- 殊途（本座）：看的挺快的。不过看了差不多30章我就转头和我没说“这两人都有毛病。”一个啥都不说都憋着，另一个脑子里的小九九多的要命，也挺搞笑的。夏司逆超可爱哈哈哈哈。想吐槽拿什么长相思+摘心就是用来推感情线的吧，真的没有很在乎金池那段。。
- 同归（师尊）：这是我最喜欢的一部分了吧。墨燃真正开始“从新做人”好感度立马提升，回来和师尊的暧昧期能给我笑死。我倒没有特别急，也没觉得很拖沓，只是觉得好笑。反正一开始就没有太读进去世界观啊什么的，我也不太着急主线任务。但是评价到：然后就开始了一系列，话都不能好好说，随随便便就开车（当然是两人脑子里的），“没羞没臊”的对话。真的很想吐槽这个楚晚宁看了5年后的墨燃就完全把持不住了，真的不能细想，当一乐呵。外插一句，宋秋桐这个角色很迷啊，其实（这个红尘）啥都没干就这样下线了。咋还写那么多。很多这种小说对女性角色刻画我一般都睁一只眼闭一只眼但这个有点太。。莫名其妙了。叶忘昔小姐姐挺帅的，但除了辅佐南宫驷（&后面保护墨燃）也没有特别多的篇幅。
- 蛟山：你能想象，我是看到第235章（蛟山最后一张！）才开始感受到虐的（因为踏仙君出来了），才再次开始思考墨燃和踏仙君是不是一个人，墨燃该不该被原谅等等。师昧跳出来我都没有多震惊，从这儿开始已经不太在乎剧情走向了，只想知道墨燃要怎么洗，怎不能洗白（都不太在意最后在图什么）。前面的南宫驷的死冲击力和南宫絮的故事都编的挺好的没有到特别虐，但也是挺触动的。
- 龙血山：八苦长恨花正式出场！师尊找回记忆！怎么说呢。。这花种的好随便啊，墨燃说他行他就行啊。最后再谈一谈对花的看法。想吐槽拿什么时间时空门，这啥啊，搞平行时空还。就有点乱
- <天音阁 + 生死之巅：乱。好乱。最后复活的莫名其妙（不过墨宗师死的时候确实哭了！）。后面的肉也莫名其妙。蝶骨美人席也有些莫名其妙。反正我看的时候心里毫无波动。。（除了可怜薛萌萌&喜欢他和）最后墨宗师+踏仙君一起和楚晚宁谈恋爱也不是我心里的理想结局吧。
很多人都评论说楚晚宁是最好的师尊，墨燃是最好的徒弟。我其实。。没怎么看出来啊？就我不反对楚晚宁是个好人，但他确实不善表也不会特地去了解他几个徒弟，可以以命就墨燃但不会就师昧，可以殉墨燃但不会为了薛萌留在这世上，但从师尊的角度来看，这也不算称职吧。。墨燃。。因为有踏仙君的事儿，我真的不好说。。also楚晚宁好卑微啊啊啊（搞笑的时候可以，到最后他觉得都是他的错什么的就又有点牵强），我看网上有人评价说，但凡性转一下楚晚宁这个角色就会骂声一片。确实，因为这种这种为男主牺牲的角色太多了，我也没觉得这故事真的能让我觉得“殉”他是唯一选择（但那几句确实带感）。就男主的坏不能怪女主的，男主的坏你不能说“哦是因为女主没成功感化他”太牵强了。倒也没觉得楚晚宁设定有多单一，还是立得住的。
哦对，文笔感觉也就还好，偏啰嗦但反正我是没怎么带脑子看的，可以了。
本来觉得，既然踏仙君在他那个红尘里，那这个红尘的墨燃和他没关系啊，他只是有他的记忆但他并不是他。回头一想，也不是的。这个时空里的墨燃15岁就没了，被踏仙君代替了。八苦长恨花呢，我一直偏向于觉得这种东西是可以影响你的，但就像书里面也说了，他只是放大本就有的恨，而不是无中生有。踏仙君一步步走到他那个样子，也不是没有能回头的时候。师昧没了，薛掌门王夫人对他不好吗。他杀了那么那么多人，对楚晚宁那个样子，真的很难洗白啊。他现在在后悔也。。改变不了这个事实啊。而且他不是像魏无羡那种一次两次（穷奇道+不夜天城--虽然也可以说是正当防卫）而是实实在在的一直在错下去。但我也不是不想让墨燃有个重来的机会，只是踏仙君--那个时空里的踏仙君--真个感觉没救了。另外一种结局也许可以是那个红尘里的踏仙君+这个红尘里的墨宗师确确实实的死了，那个红尘的事儿就能翻篇了。作者把本该是这个世界里的墨燃弄回来，就当他从15岁到。。22？岁一直睡着了，现在又醒了。这个红尘才能重新来过。至于最后两人有没有走到一起，怎么走到一起，不知道作者要不要写，还是直接OE。
说了那么多感觉一直在吐槽但。。看得挺开心的。这就够了。不带脑子吗哈哈哈娱乐一下
