You definitely have to be able to separate fiction from reality if you don’t normally read teacher/student relationships. And this is my only book where that is present, with the student being in high school. This is a taboo romance.
That being said, I loved the growth you see with Cressida. This is a character you have to be patient with, because her life did a total 180 and having to leave her prejudices behind was a struggle for her.
They do not make men like King Kyle Garro. Truly, I don’t think many of my book men are as in tune with their emotions as King is. I loved his confidence, and that although he was younger, he was the one guiding Cressida through their relationship and her coming into her own.
4/5 on the spicy scale. This is more spicy because of the taboo relationship, and because King knows how to talk dirty.
Moderate: Torture and Violence
Minor: Rape and Sexual assault

I tagged it as adult minor, although they make very clear that he’s 18 so it’s legal. But she’s still his high school teacher.zabeishumanish's review against another edition

Interestingly this is the first romance I've read in a while that is single perspective. We only ever hear Queenie's narrator voice.
I did have to skip some portions of the book because a few of the student-teacher romance aspects felt morally gross. But for the most part, this was a damn good younger male lover type of book.
The thing I hated the most was that the rival MC, the actually illegal bad guys, were Mexican, and that was their only defining trait. So that bit of blatant racism is pretty shitty.
