Give Me a Sign

I loved the representation of the deaf community in this book. There were a tonne of little things that I hadn't considered, for example, people who are hard of hearing feeling uncomfortable in the disabled and hearing communities. I did, however, think the plot dragged in the middle, and I found myself having to push through.

Super cute story that brings back so much of the magic of teenage summers. Sweet character development, and a very tame teenage romance. Learning more about the deaf community was also awesome.

4 stars bc at times the book came off a little preachy/prescriptive; a tad more subtlety would have been nice. I also thought it was a little weird that I didn't notice really any swearing in the 1st half of the book, but then halfway through it picked up (maybe it was there the 1st half, I just didn't catch it haha). Just a weird tone consistency thing.

The romance is tame enough you could feel comfortable recommending this book to the YAs in your life, just be aware that there is some swearing and underage drinking.

Overall, this was a darling story with a wide variety of deaf representation. I loved how you only "heard" as much as Lilah and only understood the signs she knew as well. Would recommend!

So cute! Gave me a new perspective on a culture I don’t know a lot about, but did it through the lens of teenage love so it was relatable! Nice, sweet read

I really, really wanted to like this one, but it just doesn't work. Lilah frustrated me endlessly. Aside from that, every misstep she makes is so clearly telegraphed that it just gets annoying. She is not 17, no way.
I'm also confused by the random mention of her brother at the beginning who then suddenly disappears from the storyline, even though he's at the same camp. I'm sure he'll pop up at one point when he's important to the Plot, but it still feels like he's suddenly gone up into thin air.

It was cute! I love learning about deaf culture.

Made me cry, felt relatable. Este libro es mi alma literal. Me indentifico mucho con el personaje Lilah con su identidad. Espero encontrar trabajo esas mismas respuestas como ella
