Wow, her resilience is nothing short of incredible. Very interesting to read from the perspective of a young person involved in the civil rights movement, and I appreciate how this book talks about the importance of voting rights in a way that I think is very digestible for young readers.
This book goes to show that issues of race and discrimination, both historical and current, are important to teach to children. It's ridiculous to say that kids are too young to learn about and understand racism when they're white because black kids of the same age are forced to learn about racism through experience. And this book just shows how much of an impact young people can make when they are determined.

A close look at one girl's experience during the Selma Voting Rights March. Even though it's about a teenager, it reads more like a middle grade book. An important story to share with youth about a snapshot of U.S. history and civil rights.

This is a good quick read on the experience of a child protester in Selma.
