This is a well-written memoir about an actor whose work I am vaguely aware of. The book focuses on Demi's personal life much more than her career and is told in a vulnerable, open way. Please check the CWs below.

From a childhood filled with trauma to a successful career as an actress and several high profile relationships, Inside Out is Demi Moore's reflections on the experiences, both good and bad, that shaped her life. It is an intimate glimpse into her past, one she has continually had to outrun, a story of adversity, but mostly of strength and resilience.

I will admit to not knowing a whole lot about Demi other than her being an actress and having been married to Bruce Willis. There is always something about a celebrity memoir that makes them more human. It opens my eyes to their daily lives and the struggles they've faced. This one was no different. It speaks to the life experiences she's endured and how they shaped her life. She talks about her trauma, her mistakes, her body image issues, and I suspect writing this memoir was therapeutic for her. It was certainly easy as a reader to understand her sadness and struggles along the way. She was vulnerable in baring witness to all of her hardships, and the writing was well done. There is a lot of heavy content here, so I'd advise being prepared ahead of time.

For me personally, I always enjoy celebrity memoirs on audio and this one did not disappoint being read by the author herself. I certainly felt the rawness of her pain in her voice. And I walked away with a new found respect for her.

"...she was hurting me, I couldn't really see past that. I felt unsafe and betrayed and, on the deepest level, devastated, that she didn't love me enough to be a better mother. To not exploit me for money. To behave herself at my wedding. To pick me up from school when she said she would. To protect me from Val. And all the rest of it. I have since come to understand that there is no such thing as someone 'loving you enough' to be better. People can only be as good as they are, no matter how much they love you. That's the bad news. The good news is that you have the power to hold their actions differently in your own mind and heart. You can choose to believe that your value is inherent, it's yours, and that the way your mother treated you says something about her, not you. Or you can choose to believe that you mother's neglect means that you are unlovable and worthless. As long as you keep that wound from closing, you'll be sore."
