Escapist fun that had me thinking back to specific sensations I experienced reading the first trilogy. Action-packed, decent plot and strong themes throughout. It plays by its own rules, although I can see why this story would put people who anticipated the story going a certain way into a disappointing path. My recommendation would be to just treat this as a new novel totally separated by the trilogy and you will find it MUCH more enjoyable.
Two things I appreciated most about the book:
1. It tackles philosophical themes in ways I was not expecting. LOVED it.
2. It lets itself have fun. One thing I remember about the trilogy (especially Catching Fire) was how dark it got throughout the whole book. This book gets dark (arguably some of the most darkest moments in this HGUniverse), but balances it out with light moments that allow the readers to breathe and even reflect upon their own beliefs of the world! I like breathing!
Overall: 4/5

Winding and weaving through the creation of the hunger games, a poetic story of the vile creature who came to be known as President Snow.
After reading the original trilogy this book seems so unserious to me, ridiculous really…
I didn't love this book until I got to the last three or four chapters, but I did finish very into it. It just seems like SO MUCH SETUP, but I guess it paid off in the end. Not necessarily because it was a happy ending, but because there was a lot of guessing going on and I wasn't very emotionally invested in any of the characters enough to find the journey to the resolution super enjoyable. The resolution was solid, though. I could definitely see a sequel to this prequel.

I feel that the ending was rushed. During the book it looked like snow wasn't bad and I asumed something traumatic would happend for him to become that cruel but it didn't so I feel something's missing
Dude I am going to watch sk many video essays on this I don’t have the brain cells to break it down but it was PERFECT AHHH
