This is not a book you can love. I hate this book. I hate that it has to exist, that these words are true and that they resonate so deeply with so many women. I hate that it has to exist, but I’m glad that it does. I have never in my life had to put down a book that I wanted to keep reading so many times - I lost count of the times I felt a tightness in my chest, tears welling in my eyes, an ache in my heart. I took my time moving through this, absorbing every word and feeling it in my soul. Evocative and deeply moving, 5 huge and unwavering stars. This should be required reading.

There isn't much that I can add to what previous reviews have already said. This is a monumental book, raw and heart-wrenching, so masterfully written. I was moved to tears and moved to absolute rage at the pain inflicted, the injustice, the added abuse caused by the judicial system.

I'm so grateful that Chanel Miller was able to make her voice heard and share her truth. I hope that her words can reach anyone in need of strength, validation and understanding.

Such a heavy book, but such an important one. I really don't feel like the court system part of sexual assault and rape cases is talked about enough. Anyone who reads Chanel's experience with that part alone is enough to perfectly explain why people don't report sexual assaults and rape. Why go through all that pain, reliving the experience, being emotionally and verbally abused as you have your character attacked over and over again and are made to feel unworthy when the result is the person who did it, the actually guilty party, taking zero responsibility for his actions and getting off with 3 months for such a heinous crime.

As someone who works in higher ed, I also really appreciated the parts about Stanford and their failures. I'm still reeling about the quote they wanted to pick for the plaque 🤦‍♀️

Chanel is a completely talented and gifted writer. I had never read her full statement when it was going viral, so it's really ridiculous to me that anyone could ever question that she wrote that statement. This book was not only powerful and intense but also gorgeous, and that's impressive af. I hope this book has helped her in her healing and that some day real change comes because of books like this and people like the Swedes.
