Huxley definisce la sua opera più famosa "una favola", e in effetti l'impianto è favolistico nel miglior senso del termine, accomunando Il mondo nuovo con le opere di Andersen e dei Fratelli Grimm.
Il mondo nuovo di Huxley è pacificato, tutti sono predestinati e felici, c'è piena libertà di essere se stessi, in quanto nessuno, tranne pochissimi, riesce a desiderare qualcosa di diverso da ciò che ha, e se proprio proprio è stressato, può ristabilirsi con la droga perfetta.
Un'utopia insomma, una orribile utopia, che toglie agli uomini la libertà così come l'hanno tolta la religione e il senso di colpa al "Selvaggio" una versione un poco più tormentata del Candido di Voltaire.
Seguono la favola i saggi che costituiscono il "Ritorno al mondo nuovo", nei quali Huxley approfondisce le sue teorie e traccia, sulla base di quelle, la strada che secondo lui l'umanità sta percorrendo per sovrapporsi al racconto fantastico, strada che, per moltissimi versi, stiamo veramente percorrendo, a passo di carica.

I haven't read "revisited" yet but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's always interesting to read books from generations past and see if predictions had come true.

I’ve wanted to read this classic for quite some time and finally got around to it this year, despite buying the book a few years ago. For me, it was a bookend to the abject brutality of “Nineteen Eighty-Four,” where control was in the form of excess. The writing was difficult for me to follow at times, but the imagery was very disturbing - especially the labs where they “condition” in utero to confine people to certain castes. The novel is prophetic in so many ways, especially when you consider the power of social media to deceive and distract the electorate from the real issues. Although it gets a bad wrap, I actually enjoyed “Brave New World, Revisited” more than the main story. That said, Huxley has some very problematic views about disabled people and overpopulation. Although I appreciated some facets of the novel, I think Orwell is more adept at capturing dystopian terror.
