I am looking forward to teaching the 4th grade library class this school year. I am excited for the challenge because Eli's class is full of boys, and while he loves to read, many of his classmates do not. Hopefully I can connect these boys with some good books. THis one was a suggested read aloud, and I think it might make a better read aloud than solo read.

This book was suggested as a good read-aloud in Games with Books by Peggy Kaye. It seemed a bit scary for my 7 and 5 year old boys, but they were both pretty hooked after a couple chapters. We read the last 3 chapters tonight, which were a bit scarier than I would have liked, but kept them on the edge of the bed listening intently. There is a happy ending so hopefully there won't be any nightmares!

Miss Grackle is a great character, and the story is a somewhat quick read, only 88 pages. I think it's a better read-aloud than one to be read on your own.

Loved this wintery fairy tale and the subtle ways it values literacy.

I shouldn't re-read this, because I was so enchanted by it as a kid.

You ever have a book you read as a child that's just nestled in the back of your brain? This one wedged itself in there until I finally remembered what it was called. I loved the shit out of this in 1998.

Suspense, intrigue, a poor, mute boy separated from his mother and terribly mistreated by the evil Miss Grackle--what more could an eight-year-old ask for in a novella?

Read this to my 9yo son. He really enjoyed it. I found it interesting enough.
