Being such a massive fan of the Fallen series, when I heard about Fallen in Love, I knew I had to have it! And it was amazing!
Fallen in Love is a companion novel to the Fallen series. It doesn't answer any questions or further the plot, you could even completely miss this book out of the series. Yet, it's not just written randomly. Yes, I said companion novel; despite this being four short stories for Valentine's day, it's actually a full story. The events of Fallen in Love take place some time during Passion. Each of the characters have their own Valentine's story to tell, but they are all interlinked, and it's still in the middle of all the chaos that's going on. The four individual short stories make up a whole - albeit short, at 201 pages - novel.
True to what she has previously written in the Fallen series, although these stories feature around Valentine's Day, Lauren Kate again shows use that the course of love never runs smooth. These are not all happy stories, some of them are terribly sad. But each and every one of them is awesome!
First up is the sweet story of Shelby and Miles. Narrated by Shelby, their story, Love Where You Least Expect It, is a sweet, almost normal tale of blossoming love between two teenage friends. Sure, they find themselves in Medieval England after stepping out an announcer and have no clue how they're going to get home, so it's still full of the usual problems, but the essence of the story is both of them discovering their feelings for each other. As I said, it's sweet, but it wasn't as wow-some as I was expecting considering the epic love of Daniel and Luce, and I got a little worried. I shouldn't have. But this story sets the scene for the rest of the stories, and where they take place.
The next story is Love Lessons, which is Roland's story. The Roland who narrates is our Roland, future Roland who has jumped through an announcer, and he is remembering when he actually lived in this era, five years before the time he's currently in. When he was in love with a mortal. A mortal who would grow old and die. A mortal who may have had trouble coming to terms with the fact that he's a fallen angel, a demon. His struggle over his remembered love and the pain that never left is so terribly sad to read about. But he shows, even for a demon, he can still act with honour, chivalry and gallantry, as the knight he is pretending to be. A really awesome story, and one that quelled my worry about the book.
Burning Love is the third story, narrated by Arriane - but the Arriane of the time, not our Arriane, but her past self. This story broke my heart. Arriane is in love with a demon, but not just any demon, one that Lucifer has marked, one of his closest demons. Their love has spanned centuries, before either of them chose a side. But now the time has come, Lucifer has called Arriane's love back to hell, for good. How far will you go to be with the one you love? What would you sacrifice for love? This story is epic, it's painful, and, god, it's heart-wrenching. I am amazed at the amount of emotion Kate is able make her readers feel from a short story. It's just brilliant. More proof of her astounding ability as an author.
The final story is Endless Love, and it's Luce and Daniel's story. This story is just as beautiful as you would expect it to be. For once, Luce decides to let her hair down while experiencing her past life, choosing to just enjoy her time with Daniel, rather than trying to work things out. After all, it's their one and only Valentine's Day together. Their love runs as deep as you've come to expect, and it's just wonderful to see the effect they both have on each other.
Kate must be applauded because, even through short stories, she still manages to cover issues like race and homosexuality. The issue of race is very subtle, but it still made me so mad! Yet, the homosexuality in the novel was brilliantly written as if it wasn't an issue; there was nothing about the pressures of being gay, nothing about what other people might think, but only the love that was felt. It was so not an issue that, after the first realisation that they're a homosexual couple, you don't even bat an eyelid. It was so awesome to read a gay romance that was just so beautiful.
Fallen in Love comes with some bonus features; an extract from Rapture, and an interactive cover. Using the free Aurasma app, when you hold your phone over the cover, it comes to life, and when you do the same to Lauren Kate's author image on the dust cover, you can watch a video message from her. Unfortunately, the app isn't compatible with my phone (boo!) so I can't tell you how awesome this is, but it sounds amazing! Maybe some other reviews of the novel discuss these aspects.
All in all, a wonderful novel! One I think die hard fans must read, because you'll love it! Fantastic short stories that have got me in the mood for Rapture!

Quick read and basically a teaser as to what's to come in Rapture. I didnt read the little insert of Rapture because then I will be wondering the whole time until it's released..
Nothing really new in this book, we all know that Daniel and Luce get Valentines Day together. It was just kind of showing you that Roland and Rosalina and Shelly and Miles wanted relationships as well..

This novella is longer than all of the other "shorts" I've read within this series. We get to read about a particular day in history, but from the view point of several of the different characters in the series. It's nice to see a bit of history from some of the other characters after having read about so many of Daniel and Lucinda's histories. I also enjoyed that each story had something to do with love, whether a sad or happy ending. I think reading Arianne and Roland's stories was my favorite part of this book. Definitely a must read for fans of the series.
I easily read this book in a few hours. The stories are wonderfully written and had me smiling, laughing and crying all the way through.
This is a cute little set of stories about the loves of some of my favorite characters from this book! It's actually exactly what I've been waiting for from these novels!
I don't have a lot to say this time about the story line and whatnot because, there really isn't any involved in this book. I would say it was pointless fluff, but I enjoyed it so much that I don't mind! I'm glad that even though it was just part of the story from the last book that it was on it's own. These 200 pages would have made the last novel way too long but are super enjoyable on their own!

I have mixed feelings about this series - some of the books I've really enjoyed, and then some of the books, I haven't. So I kind of didn't really know what to expect with Fallen In Love.
I have to be honest, I wasn't impressed. Fallen In Love is a book of four short stories, based around the romances of four of the major characters in the book (Roland, Arriane, Miles and Shelby, and Luce and Daniel. (I don't know why there's a story about Luce and Daniel - isn't that the whole point of the Fallen series? )) Anyway, with each story being very short (one of them is 36 pages) they read very quickly and a lot has to packed into a short space of time to keep it interesting. And it was interesting to start with.
The first story was Miles and Shelby. This was probably my favourite - because I got to learn more about two characters that I already knew, but didn't know much about. Their story was cute but there was nothing about it really that made me think that I was really glad to have read it. I guess I feel as if I know Miles and Shelby a little better than I perhaps did before but I doubt it will change how I view them in the final book, Rapture.
The second story was Roland's love story. Roland is one of the bad guys in the main series, so the fact that he had it in him to love kind of surprised me, I think. His story was adorable, and I have to say that next time when he appears in Rapture I will definitely view him differently - I can sort of understand why he is the way he is now, because of this story, which is good.
Then there was Arianne's story - about her romance with a girl called Tess. I wasn't expecting it at all - it's never mentioned in the main books (that I'm aware of) but it was nice to find out more about Arianne as she is one of my favourite characters of the whole series. It was so sad too, and I just wanted to give Arianne a big hug...
The last story was Luce and Daniel's love story. This was my least favourite of the four - nothing new happened! I thought that the Fallen series was all about telling Luce and Daniel's 'epic love story' so why have a short story about their romance when that's the whole point of the series? Everything about the story felt so familiar as I was reading and I don't really feel like I gained anything from reading it... So great, Luce and Daniel have a great Valentine's Day together... They're a couple, isn't that what couples do?
Anyway, overall, I didn't enjoy Fallen In Love. I wanted to, but I just couldn't help feeling that the stories were just not up to the standard we saw in Torment and Passion. I would only recommend this to super massive fans of the Fallen series, or if you want to read it, maybe borrow it from the library, rather than buy it. I don't know, maybe I missed the point or am being too critical, but Fallen In Love just wasn't for me, but don't let me put you off - if you're a huge fan of the series I'm sure you'll love it!
*Thanks to Random House for sending me this in exchange for an honest review! In no way has this affected my opinion of the book.

This short novel is part of the Fallen series, but not at the same time. This 200-page novel is up to you to read in the series, it doesn’t exactly “fit” in with the storyline. This novel is about the other characters that are seen in the series, but their love isn’t mentioned like the main characters Daniel and Luce. The novel is very sweet and talks about all kinds of love, not just romantic love, but the love of friendship as well. The novel was short and sweet about the other characters who contributed a lot in the main plot of the series, and this was just a little sidebar on their loves on Valentine’s Day.
