Great for grades 2-4 students! Entertaining characters and plot. Love the things that Marty says and does - she's sure to be a favorite of many young readers!

A great beginner chapter book for the girl who isn't in to "frilly things". Marty learns some important lessons about friendship. Reminds me a little of the Ramona books, and I'd be happy to suggest this to someone growing out of junie b. jones.

I love Marty! She is a strong, independent, funny, smart young woman. Cannot wait to get more of her in the sequel.

This book is probably just right for a third grader. I love Marty--what a delightful heroine in the vein of Ramona or Clementine.

Even though I'm putting this is the intermediate category, it's still on the very young end of intermediate. Marty is in third grade, but I could see a good second grade reader enjoying it as well.
I thought Marty's voice sounded very age appropriate and I remember well the playground dynamic of third grade. Personally, I was all about the parallel bars myself, but to each her own. ;)

Marty McGuire is the type of kiddo you just LOVE to have in your classroom! Kate Messner's writing is authentic and helps the reader grow to know and love Marty. Marty is a 3rd grader with a spunky personality who seems very comfortable in her own skin (she is a definite tom-boy), yet not so comfortable in being the princess in the 3rd grade play of The Frog Prince. With the right amount of encouragement from her teacher, she takes on the role and does a great job, even with a little improvising! This book makes me want to go find a 2nd or 3rd grade class to read it to right away! Definitely a winner!

This was a lot of fun! I like the no-princess girl making the whole princess thing work in her own style.

Sometimes it seems like in books girls are one of two extremes: pink, princess-loving and propper, or precocious tomboys. This book falls into the tomboy category. The story is fairly predictable if you've been around the easy chapter book block a few times, but it's still very well written and will be lots of fun for young readers. I liked it lots. I loved Marty from the very first page. Her voice is unique and honest. Her story is engaging and full of content. It doesn't feel like it's missing something, unlike a lot of other books for this age level. Floca's illustrations are wonderfully detailed and add to the story's humor.

It has a lot of appeal for both girls and boys-- Marty catches frogs AND wears princess costumes. I would recommend this one to 2-4th graders.
