Faithless in Death is #52 in the In Death series. This volume is a solid entry in the series. It feels like coming back to a comfortable place where you know who will be there and a good time is to be had. Secondary characters come back that were absent in the last book and it is reuniting with a friend you haven't seen in a while but can still pick up the conversation where you left off months ago
As is implied in the title, it starts with a faithless fiancee but that crime sets Eve on a course to bring down a rather distasteful institution that is eerily reminiscent of headlines today. As ever, Eve prevails because as Peabody, her police partner comments, "'No rest for the wicked 'cause the murder cops are all over their asses.'"
Review based on an ARC from Edwelwiess.

This is the first good one in a long while! It was like the dead junkie in the bathtub type of case where one murder led to something much bigger--but the way how this case unfolded was even better, because it truly does start small and grow big. The book puts a spotlight on Eve and the other cops fighting (and winning, of course) against bigotry in society. This case is definitely worthy of being Nadine's next book ! Asides from the case, we get an update on Mavis and big changes in her life. The book has a nice balance of daily life stuff and case stuff.
Moderate: Violence, Forced institutionalization, Religious bigotry
Minor: Child abuse, Domestic abuse, Hate crime, Homophobia, Misogyny, Racism, Rape, Sexism, Sexual assault, Sexual violence, Slavery, Suicide, Torture, Toxic relationship, Transphobia, Trafficking, Kidnapping
