It was a challenging start to this book. And in a way the thread of the early trauma th ough the book focusses attention on the cop, not the traumatised.
The most interesting parts come at the end as people's response to old and new loss and grief and trauma is more clearly laid out.
The most troubling character has his story laid out, rather abruptly towards the very end. As he's pivotal I felt this would have been useful earlier in the book.
The ending and the relatio ships are a bit pat, and the plot somewhat predictable. Still - some excellent descriptions and writing that make it worth reading.

Crime fiction with heavy nod towards Irish nostalgia - what more could a reader like me want?! Loved it!

There were a lot of characters which were hard to keep track of. I also like my thrillers with crazy twists and I didn't feel like this really had any.

I technically read this book in a five-hour span between the twilight hours of July 2nd and July 3rd. There was some confusion in the beginning and I had to go back to check the names and titles and places (as I’m not too familiar with Irish culture and names). The tale, though, was incredible and I was entranced by the way the stories intertwined along with the changes in the timeline and I HAD TO KNOW how it ended. Although I feel like there should have been more vengeance/justice at the end, I’m still pleased with how it all tied together and how realistic it felt. It’s not the most uplifting book but it will pull you in and try to pull you under.
