This is such an incredible story of survival, but also a sweet and tender love story. These two characters understand each other when they meet. They grow to love each other in an environment where there is a lot of suffering, but also resistance, hope, and art. I loved this book so much.

A gorgeously told and beautifully illustrated story of finding hope inside the worst circumstances. The author's note, especially, had me in tears.

Beautiful picture book with telling theme despite being set in a harsh setting. The illustrator captures the characters emotions so vividly and does an excellent job placing you in the setting alongside the author's words.

Based on the true story of the author’s maternal grandparents who were sent to the Minidoka internment camp in Idaho during World War II, this is a charming story despite the characters’ grave circumstances.
