WOWWWW I fucking loved this book, it was so so so good and prompted a very long notes app ramble. god where do i start. it’s so fucked up and the main character is extremely mentally unwell but GODDDD, there are so many things i love about this book. religious imagery, sapphic pining, a total flop ass mc, so much BLOOD and just the ugliest parts of someone being bared to the world. godddd, im so amazed. i will def be spinning this one back. this book woke up so many emotions in me and i had to set it down to walk around several times, but holy shit am i glad i stuck through with it. there are so many quotes that really stuck with me, god this mc reminded me so much of sari, she’s so REAL with her like issues with herself and not feeling good enough and feeling purposeless. god even the fucking title is so like layered. deliver me… deliver a baby… deliver me from sin, god… FUCK FUCK FUCK I LOVED THIS ONE SOOOO MUCH I NEED A HARD COPY ASAP…. THIS IS FOR MY CRAZY GIRLS.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.

I almost don’t know where to start here. Deliver Me is one of the most disturbing books I’ve ever read all the way through. I would recommend anyone who wants to read it checking on trigger warnings. That being said this book is a gem of domestic horror. We follow Daisy, a woman in her thirties who grew up in a restrictive, very religious small town, as she tries desperately to become a mother. She works an emotionally and physically draining job, has a history of miscarriage, and a weird relationship with her boyfriend while she refers to as Daddy. Her past and her present collide when someone from her youth comes back to town. This further complicates her life until things start to spiral.

The writing is fantastic and I would recommend this book to anyone who can handle the darkest parts of it.

This wasn’t for me. I’m not easily turned off but parts of this book were  disturbing and disgusting in ways that weren’t  entertaining or engaging for me. The devastation was heavy handed and unnecessary (as were the repeated, graphic descriptions of animal abuse) and before long I was bored reading about how horrible the MCs life was. The last 10% was predictable but still shocking. I’m not sure who the target audience is for a book like this, but it definitely isn’t me.

Dee-Dee and her co-workers kill and butcher 40,000 chickens in just one shift at a meatpacking facility in the Missouri Ozarks. The work is repetitive and brutal — both on the body and mind. Dee-Dee has been plagued by miscarriage after miscarriage, but she's refusing to let go of this most recent pregnancy as an old friend returns and her life falls apart.
"Deliver Me" is dark, intriguing and stunning. It was a one-sitting read for me that I just had to tear through. One of my favorite niches of the unhinged woman with fantastically well-done body horror.
Thank you to the author, NetGalley and Unnamed Press for the advance copy!

Unconditional. A word so overused it lost it’s true meaning. Without condition, endless, Christ-like. What a terrible grief it is to love even when you do not want to love; a hole is carved within you, and you become emptied of everything you have to give.

Gut-WRENCHING. Elle Nash, whatever you’re doing, keep doing it. A story of the insufferable realities that come with womanhood, motherhood, religious trauma, familial influences and understanding yet ultimately suffocating your own sexuality. Nash’s characters were dynamic. MC Daisy I felt encapsulated a lot of what many women experience , but in one complex person.

I absolutely loved how the further you got, the more unhinged and disjointed everything became. Now, this is a very fine line to teeter and could have easily become messy, but it’s obvious the careful time Elle put into this novel. I’m really in awe.

Not for the faint of heart & there’s a lot of messages in Nash’s writing that I’m still pondering. I love thinking about a book long after I’ve read.

Could be very triggering for those who have pregnancy or infertility trauma, or even those who are freshly postpartum. so I recommend avoiding if these are strong no’s for you!

5/5!
