This would have been the best book I read in 2024, but it took me until the end of January to finish it. Really intense at times, the story left me guessing. I will definitely be rereading this many years to come.

Really enjoyed this. I felt so much angst for Abatha through the whole story. It's so difficult to be othered. The last 30% of the book was intense and frustrating in a riveting way.

Slewfoot isn't really, as the summary implies, about a "battle between pagan and puritan." Rather, it is about a young woman named Abitha, struggling against her evil brother-in-law and the puritan village that supports him. So just keep your expectations less "big religious war" and more "badass woman."

I really really enjoyed this book. It had elements of horror but was almost more of a thriller, with every page seeped in tension and suspense. I was captivated both by Abitha's battles against evil religious men and by Samson's pursuit of his true identity. And the way it all tied together in a fireball of rage and magic and creepy creatures... perfection.

If you like stories about weird forest monsters, feminine rage, and witches, you'll enjoy this one. I highly recommend it.

A dark, bewitching novel, it is a tale of reclaiming your identity, listening to your intuition, and the empowerment of creation and connection (Abitha and Samson make a beautiful couple) with well-rounded characters, rich folklore, and phenomenal storytelling. Seriously, this book is a work of magic.

I'm honestly a big chicken and the illustrations were amazing but my imagination went on overdrive and I had to stop reading because I got too scared with the demonic possession and demons within the story

Honestly so far was a solid 4 ⭐ recommend!!
