If you liked The Witch and Carrie, then this book is for you. I loved how this story questions good and evil. In any other tale, most of these roles would be reversed.
While this story has a few moments of horror, this is pretty manageable for those who aren’t big on the genre. I will be recommending this one to many people, and hope you enjoy it too.

The first half was intriguing and I enjoyed the mystery as well as the commentary on religious community.

However, the second half becomes not only predictable
but also has a Native American shaman as the lurking "evil" character.
It seemed unnecessary to the story and was jarring to read, especially in combination with the portrayal of the Pequot characters.

The ending also felt very predictable but also unsatisfying.

Overall this was a read that started out interesting enough but was a disappointment.

Audiobook

Perhaps the most difficult book I get to finish this year. As we follow Abitha's earnest struggle against one unfair trial after another with neither hope or company in sight, it's unreservedly brutal, rage-inducing and thoroughly devastating. By the end Slewfoot surprisingly left me with a lot of hope. It's as beautifully written as it is illustrated, the magical world in Slewfoot was something to behold. No notes!! I would recommend this book to every horror/fantasy readers, especially if you enjoy Lapvona.

This book had me reeled in! Taking place in 1666 Connecticut, this is during the "defiant women are witches" timeline. Lots of back and forth between Christianity, Paganism, and humanity itself. There were horrific moments within the story that I would proceed with caution; animal cruelty, torture, religious trauma, and misogyny. If you're into horror, supernatural, historical fiction, I would definitely give this a read!
