What a great adventure this book was! I loved every minute of this Odyssey-style trip across the country with two wonderful giraffes. Based on a true story, the author gives us an unforgettable experience. My dad recommended I read this book- so very glad I did!

It was short and sweet. It tells the story of how a poor boy orphaned during the dust bowl found himself in the driver’s seat to transport two African giraffes from coast to coast. The story unravels by telling the mishaps that happen in the crossing while letting the reader know about his life and the impact this single event had on his life.

A sweet, poignant novel about coming of age, the dust bowl, American migration, and giraffes.

I liked this book more than I thought I would. Loved that it was based on a true event, and the fictional story was a good mix of heartwarming and suspenseful

Adventurous! Well developed characters and a unique plot made this an enjoyable read. And, yes, I did cry at the end.
