This is the conclusion of the Alison Brownstone series and I’m tempted to say “finally”. The series started off really nice but I have not felt the same satisfaction with the last few books in the series.

Sure Alison have been a kick-ass main protagonist all through the series but for some of the latest books I kind of felt they didn’t contribute much and that the stories were almost fillers and events just thrown in to fill a book.

Luckily this last book in the series is a quite good one and Alison is more kick-ass than ever. And if that wasn’t enough the big guy himself is dragged in to do some serious bad guy clobbering in this final showdown. That really improved the satisfaction factor for me.

The first part of the book felt a bit like another side story at first but it was a good one. The main event though is of course the Drow succession issue. Given the name of the book and the content of the book blurb it is not much of a spoiler when I say that Alison finally got tired of all the politics and conspiring in the shadows and decided a hammer is exactly what this problem requires. A hammer named Brownstone.

Obviously there is a big-ass showdown at the end where the issues are resolved the Brownstone way and, well, it looks like everyone (the good guys at least) are going to live happily ever after.

I’m happy that this series finally was brought to a conclusion and that it was a happy one. Of course I would enjoy reading more Brownstone stories but this particular series had almost outstayed it’s welcome.

The end of a series.
This like Drow Conqueror wasn't slow and chunky.
We also got to see more drow stuff that is not touched upon enough in this series and learn more about politics. You can fly through this book in no time.
I was satisfied with the ending and also baby Thomas is adorable. I keep trying not to compare this Alison to the Alison in the Unbelievable Mr Brownstone series (books 1-6) and The School of Necessary Magic (she has her own series and Raine has her own one)
The action was tense and Alison and her friends were ready to fight to the end.
